YAVA FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know that I am registered for an event?

Once you enter your email, name, address, and phone number you will be taken to a page which says the following:Thank you for registering!!
You have registered for (the event name here)
You will receive a detailed Event Information email within 2-3 days before your event. No worries! xx-xxx

That’s it! Now you’re registered for the event. You will not receive anything else until 2-3 days before your event when you will receive and Event Information email. If you have any other questions about this, please feel free to contact Deb at DKatzman@yavaonline.org.

This is my first event, will everyone else who is volunteering know the others in the group already?

For lots of other volunteers at YAVA events it is their first time too. Also, most YAVA volunteer events only need about 10 people and there are over 1,500 YAVA members (last time we checked). This means that there is a large possibility that most volunteers have never met each other. Either way, there is an Event Leader (check out who they are on the “Who We Are” page) there to make sure that everyone is introduced to each other.

I signed up for an event and now I have to cancel. What do I do?

If you can no longer make an event, please, please, please email Deb right away at DKatzman@yavaonline.org so that we can take your name off the volunteer list. If you have waited until the last minute and already received the “Event Information” email, please contact the Event Leader mentioned in the email directly to opt out of helping at the event.

Please try to not to sign up for events that you cannot make. As a YAVA volunteer you are the face of YAVA and are committing to help at an event as a YAVA-er. When YAVA members do not show up to volunteer, YAVA loses credibility and we are less likely to be invited to volunteer in the future. Also, you are holding onto a spot that another volunteer could want and use.

Does YAVA have a membership fee?

NO!YAVA is completely free!!! The only thing that we ask for is your hard work while volunteering and that you try to attend our social events. An most of all tell your friends about the great time you have!!

Where can I get one of those awesome YAVA shirts?

We are currently taking orders for new shirts. Please email RShenoy@YAVAonline.org with the size shirt that you want and how many. Our fun wristbands are already for sale through this site, under the “Merch” page. All you need is an easy to sign up for PayPal account.

Do most people go to the restaurant after volunteering?

Of course! Plan on going to the restaurant, it almost better than volunteering. Working up an appetite is common after doing a good deed is normal and there is nothing better than enjoying some quality food and drinks with quality people. The social event after volunteering is a great way to get to know your fellow volunteers better and try out a new restaurant while you’re at it.

What can I expect at a your social events?

We try to have one social event a month with free food or drinks or sometimes even pool, if we can. Not only are they at one of Boston’s fun hot spots, but they are filled with other fun YAVAers. Bring your non-YAVA friends too, so that they can meet us and hopefully sign up for some events and become YAVA members.

Does YAVA have a newsletter?

YES! YAVA has a weekly newsletter that goes out on Tuesdays. It includes information on the coming month’s events and additional information on member benefits and perks. If you would like to add something to the newsletter, just email Rohit at RShenoy@YAVAonline.org

I just gave you my email address, will i get spammed?

Absolutely not! You will just receive a weekly newsletter - The YAVA Weekly and you can opt out of that, BUT please don’t!

What do I do if I lose my username or password?

Send an email to Rohit at RShenoy@YAVAonline.org or Deb at DKatzman@YAVAonline.org and one of us will send you the information

Can anyone become an Event Leader (EL), what is the minimum requirement?

We are constantly looking for new, exciting, committed people to become more involved in YAVA. In order to be an Event Leader (EL) you need to have already attended at least 3 YAVA events, and need to commit to leading and average of one event a month. You should be outgoing and ready to meet new people, and most importantly you must love YAVA!! Please email Deb at DKatzman@yavaonline.org and she can tell you better what being an Event Leader is and whether or not we are looking for new Event Leaders.
