About

Who We Are | What We Do | Where We Help

YAVA was founded in Boston in December 2005 to comprose of college seniors, recent college graduates, and graduate students who volunteer and socialize together. YAVA volunteers are lively individuals who constantly enjoy lots of new experiences and detest the sensation of boredom. Boredom sucks! We get off on helping people! We are a community of 1,000+ members who annually provide 6,000+ hours in support of 50+ charities.

The YAVA mission is to effect positive change in the community by providing capable, enthusiastic volunteer support for a variety of charitable causes. Additionally, YAVA seeks to fully engage 20 and 30-somethings in their community to encourage the feeling of connectedness with all kinds of people. The YAVA belief is that volunteerism in society is an underutilized sustainable practice that, when implemented, effectively promotes long-term growth and prosperity.

Long-term, the YAVA vision is to expand the scope of the organization to encompass, at minimum, fundraising for charitable causes, supplying goods to impoverished nations, and aiding domestic efforts like the rebuilding of Hurricane Katrina-stricken communities. YAVA will globally expand its reach by recruiting business-minded young professionals who, in the interest of obtaining significant practical leadership experience early in their careers, will voluntarily establish local chapters to facilitate the missions of the organization. The Boston headquarters will guide and support the emerging leaders, develop and implement viable strategies to ease pain in the community, and leverage the organization’s size and demographic to strategically partner with corporations to benefit each the constituency and community at large. YAVA will purposely maintain an entrepreneurial culture within all levels of the organization to encourage smart risk-taking and “learning by doing.” Guaranteed to be an amazing experience for all involved.
